Saturday 6/26 Meet Details

Hello Mt. View Families,

***Just an FYI for some families that we discovered doing ribbons that we were a pack short on first place ribbons for our first meet. The ribbons had been ordered but have been delayed due to high demand at the company with sports starting up all over the country! We will get them to those missing them as soon as they come in!***

Information for Saturday is below. This is a lengthy email since it includes all the meet details. Please read the section regarding their COVID protocols as they are not as open as we are with movement around the pool. If you have any questions, please ask! (I may not get back to emails quickly on Friday, so please if it’s urgent send me a text at 717.304.5718).
Arrival for Saturday is 7:45 AM, warm-ups are at 8:00 AM. Our meet is at AWAY at Dauphin Pool ( 590 Claster Blvd, Dauphin, PA 17018)

The meet is scheduled to start at 8:30 AM.

This email provides the necessary details for Saturday, as well as some information for our new families.

Volunteers Still needed!!!

We are still in need of the following volunteers for Saturday:
(1) First Half Finish Judge (they do not need to be certified they just write down the lane finish order)
(1) First Half Official
(1) Second Half Official

If you are able to do one of these please let me know as soon as possible.

Spectators Policy/ COVID Protocols

Spectators are welcome, but we must sit on our side and view from our side of the pool (lanes 4/5/6 or the slide/diving board side).

Masks are not required.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT: When you arrive and come in the gate, please go to the left to set up. Swimmers will also need to go around the diving board side of the pool to line up for their events. Our lanes are 4, 5, and 6 this week.

We do ask that the deck remains open for officials/coaches.

Special Rules/Procedures At ALL Meets

1. Per league policy, this year we will be splitting the pool at each meet so one team is in one half of the pool (lanes 1, 2, 3) and the other team is in the other half (lanes 4, 5, and 6). For this week our swimmers will be in lanes 4, 5, and 6 and Dauphin will be in lanes 1, 2, and 3.  In exhibition heats (non-scoring heats) we may use different lanes.

2. This policy also includes timers. We assumed with sign-ups that we would be in lanes 1, 2, 3 however it's 4, 5, 6. Dauphin will let us know if it's one of our timers per lane like last week, or if we are pairing. For those of you that signed up, please check your updated title for lane assignments as they have been corrected.

3. Photography - No photography/video may be taken at the starting or turn end of the pool (even if it's your own child). This is a league policy for the safety of swimmers. You may take as many pictures as you want from the sides of the pool between the flag area. If you aren't sure where it is safe to take photos/videos please ask a coach or experienced parent! Coach Jess does serve as Secretary of the Summer League so we definitely need to follow this rule!

Changes from Previous Seasons at Dauphin

1. For our returning families, swimmers must line up going around the diving well side.

2. Lane Assignments for Swimmers and Timers are grouped (see below)

3. There is a small staging area behind the block to help with spacing.

Concessions at Dauphin

This is what Dauphin shared regarding concessions for this week: We are getting out the grill this week so we will have burgers, hot dogs, sausages and possibly breakfast sandwiches. We also have drinks, fruit (bananas and oranges), bagels, chips, candy, mini muffins etc (all prepackaged stuff). No walking tacos or mixed fruit this year.

Running Late? Sick on Saturday?

Please Please Please! If you are going to be late please email or text me (this is my email, my cell is 717-304-5718 please text as emails do not always go immediately through!). I start to panic when we are done with warm-ups and people aren't there. I don't want to remove people from the meet because we don't know where you are!

Swimmers will get entry cards on Saturday morning that will list the swimmers events. One of our parent helpers will help distribute them before and after warm-ups. This will be the individual and any relays. ***Lanes are subject to change, but your events will not change!***

Our meet is estimated to be over by about 11:30 AM!

Relays are at the BEGINNING of the meet this week: They are medley relays. *Every effort will be made to get a swimmer in a relay if we can!*

CAPS

If you ordered a cap they have arrived! Most have been picked up, but if they haven't please check with Coach Jess tomorrow morning at practice (or stop by the pool tomorrow during the day/evening).

What do I need to know, bring, or understand about a swim meet?

WHAT TO BRING:

Swim suit, swim cap and goggles (having extras is helpful)

Towels (more than one per swimmer)

Water/sports drinks

T-shirt or sweatshirt to cover up

Games/books to keep kids entertained between events

Folding chairs for parents and blanket or chair for swimmer (we do not have the chairs out at the pool on meet days)

Nutritious snacks – bananas, granola bars, fruit snacks, yogurt, cereal, sandwiches.

Sunscreen and bug spray.

Cash to purchase snacks.

BEFORE THE MEET STARTS

1.Arrive at the pool approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled warm-ups (that would be 7:45 this week)

2.Upon arrival, find a place to put your swimmer's blanket, swim bag, etc... The team usually sits in one place together, so look for some familiar faces. We sit on the left side once you come in.

3.Write each event number on your swimmer's arm in something waterproof (i.e., a sharpie is good for this). This will help them remember what events he/she is swimming and what event number to listen for.

4.Your swimmer will now get their cap and goggles and report for the team's warm-up. It is important for all swimmers to warm up with the team. A swimmer's body is like a car on a cold day – they need to get the engine going and warmed up before he/she can go all out.

5.After warm-ups, your swimmer will go back to the area where their team (and family) is sitting and wait there until their first event is called. This is a good time to make sure they go to the bathroom if necessary, get a drink, or just get settled in.

6.All questions concerning meet results, an officiating call, or the conduct of a meet should be referred to a coach.

7.At some meets psych sheets will be available. It lists all swimmers in each event in order of “seed time”. When the team entry is sent in, each swimmer and his/her previous best time in that event is listed. If the swimmer is swimming an event for the first time, they will be entered as a “no time” or “NT”. A “no time” swimmer will most likely swim in the second or third heat of an event.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A MEET

1.It is important for any swimmer to know what event numbers they are swimming (the reason to write this information on their arm). They may be swimming right away or have to wait awhile.

2.Most meets are computerized. There are generally two (2) ways a swimmer gets to his/her lane:

a. A swimmer usually reports directly to a staging area before he/she actually swims. Typically, one or two team parents will make sure 8&U and 9-10 swimmers get to this staging area before each of their events.

b. Generally, girls events are even-numbered and boys events are odd-numbered.

c. The Clerk of Course/Line Up Person will usually line up all the swimmers in the staging area and take them down to their lane in the correct order. There are usually multiple heats for each event.

3.After your child has swam his/her event, he/she may ask the timer (people behind the blocks at each lane) what his/her time was.

4.Swimmers and parents can leave once a swimmer has swam all of his/her events, but please check with Coach Jess before you go to make sure we don't need you for something or there was a change in your events.

5.Results may be posted somewhere at the pool throughout the meet.

6.Awards (ribbons) are given to swimmers and will be available for pick up by Monday's following the meet.
