Team & Mini Team Newsletter 6.23
Hi Swim Families,
Attached you’ll find our second newsletter of the season! While most of the content is geared toward regular team members, there are still several helpful updates for our Mini Team families as well — please take a few moments to read through.
👀 Practice Observation Reminder
To help swimmers stay focused and coaches stay effective:
- Parents, grandparents, and babysitters must stay in the pavilion or at the tables by the concession stand during practice.
- Please do not stand behind the long bench at the shallow end or along the sides of the pool. This is becoming an issue in the last week.
- The grassy areas are off-limits during practice due to mowing and watering schedules.
This has been a recurring issue, especially with extended family and caregivers — please help us by passing this message along!
🌡️💧 Heat Wave Hydration Tips
With temperatures soaring, staying hydrated is absolutely essential — even for swimmers in the water!
How much should your swimmer be drinking?
- Ages 6–12: About 7–10 cups (56–80 oz) per day
- Ages 13+: At least 10–14 cups (80–112 oz) per day
⚠️ And more if they have multiple practices, meets, or spend a lot of time in the sun. - A safe rule of thumb is they should be drinking a total number of oz that is half their current body weight (i.e. a swimmer that is 80 pounds should be drinking at least 40 oz)
Best practices:
- Bring a full water bottle to every practice (no exceptions!)
- Start hydrating in the morning — don’t wait until practice time
- Add electrolytes on meet days or if your swimmer is in multiple events
- Avoid sugary or carbonated drinks before swimming
Even though they’re in the water, swimmers still sweat, and dehydration can sneak up fast. Keep water flowing all day long to help them perform and recover their best!
🌧️ Weather Policy
Practice will be held unless conditions are unsafe (lightning, thunder, or very low temps — generally under 60°F).
During cooler mornings, we may modify the workout to include more dryland activities.
We respect your judgment — make the call that’s best for your child, but unless we notify otherwise, practice is ON.
🎀 Ribbons Are In!
Ribbons from both Saturday’s meet and the Hummelstown Relay Meet will be filed and available during the first practice tomorrow morning.
